What’s the difference between Part 1 and Part 2 Float Valves

What’s the difference between Part 1 and Part 2 Float Valves? Discover the easy-to-spot differences between Part 1 and Part 2 ball float valves, found in your loft’s water tanks. Let’s dive into their simple design variances, regulatory aspects, and how they adjust.

Understanding Design Variations

Location of Water Outlet: Part 1 valves have the water outlet underneath, while Part 2 valves have it on top with a plastic nozzle directing water downward. You’ll usually find these in loft tanks or feed and expansion tanks.

Regulatory Insights

Why Part 1 Is Outdated: Part 1 valves are outdated for new installations due to water regulations. New installs must use Part 2 valves to follow the rules. This ensures water won’t flow back into the mains if the valve fails.

Adjustability Features

How Part 2 Adjusts: Part 2 valves have a lockable collar, making it easy to move the float ball up or down for the water shut-off level.

Adjusting Part 1: Part 1 valves lack this collar. Instead, you adjust the water shut-off level by bending the arm.

Why the Difference Matters

Preventing Contamination: The big deal with the regulation change is stopping water from going back into the mains if the valve fails. Part 2’s design prevents the nozzle from getting submerged, keeping water where it belongs.

Wrapping It Up

Now you can easily tell Part 1 from Part 2 ball float valves. Remember, if you’re doing a new installation, go for Part 2 to stay in line with water regulations and keep things running smoothly.
